That garden.. It remains a difficult thing. You probably have some ideas and plans, but how can you make them into one?

The garden is often more difficult for many to arrange than the interior of the house. That is not surprising because with a garden you have to deal with a lot more factors such as the weather and the seasons. On top of that, there are also all the plants, hedges and trees that you can choose from and which you then also have to give the right place. So quite a puzzle!

I'm glad you visit my website and I hope I can help you further, but first let me introduce myself!

NICE TO MEET YOU

My name is Linda van de Lavoir and I am the owner and chief designer of Studio Linda Lavoir. In my designs I look for the right balance between people and nature and I try to create a place where both parties can relax.

It's great to design with nature, but you don't get to know the plants from the books or from pictures on Pinterest. The only way to master this matter is to sit with your hands in the soil with your eyes on the plants. That is why I have been walking around Kwekerij In Goede Aarde for a few days a year since 2016, where I try to satisfy my hunger for knowledge about perennials and ornamental grasses. I have also had my own test garden for a year from which I try as many plants and new combinations as possible. In Linda's Diary I wrote several blogs about this. The style of the planting plans that I make are mainly known as the 'Dutch Wave', a planting style in which you create 365 different moments, each with its own charm.

Prior to that, I studied at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, where I studied landscape architecture. I did my internship with the largest Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen. ( It's worth googling her, she makes beautiful work! ) Spatial awareness and creativity were the top priority for both parties. For me, these two factors, in addition to the plants, are the basis for a good design. A kind of super mix with a surprising and new outcome every time.

MY VISION

Before I started designing gardens, I thought a lot about what 'a garden' actually is. The garden is different for every person, but I once spoke to someone who had a very interesting view of it.

'The garden used to be purely functional. The people used their garden to produce food for the family. Today, of course, this is no longer necessary.
The carrots and broccoli are plentiful on the supermarket shelves. The garden loses its functionality and turns into a weak appendage that people don't really know what to do with. (with a few exceptions of course)
We now live in a period where the garden is again becoming important, but this time as extra living space for ourselves.

In my opinion, the garden is a very interesting space where a lot of profit can be made.

First of all, the garden serves as a place where we can relax; On our own with a book and a cup of coffee, with the children and grandchildren or with the BBQ on, a beer in our hands and a bunch of friends. We should be able to enjoy the garden when we are in it, but it should also be a place we can enjoy when we are not using it. After all, we live in the Netherlands and we don't have beautiful weather twelve months of the year. We see the garden most often when we are indoors.

In addition, a garden is a place that we share with nature.

Trees, climbers, hedges, shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses ensure that we create habitats for insects, birds, amphibians and small mammals. Fortunately, we are increasingly realizing that they are very important to us.

Lots of greenery also ensures that we can positively influence certain current problems with our gardens. Trees absorb particulate matter. Rainwater is better absorbed by the soil, soil life becomes healthy again and we can further prevent insect decline.

A beautiful, usable and natural garden can therefore have great added value for you, your loved ones and nature.

The gardens I design are always doubly functional. They are for you, as well as for nature - and all life that comes with it - a nice place to be. In terms of design, the natural planting and the modern lines and materials wink at each other. The contrast between the two ensures that they enhance each other's appearance. A wonderful combination!

The red line of the garden design is always based on the customer's story. This makes every assignment a challenge and every garden design  unique !

I am very curious about your story. Do you want to share it with me? please let me know!

See you soon,

Linda

FROM GROWING TABLE TO DRAWING TABLE, FROM DRAWING TABLE TO IN THE GARDEN

All plants used for the ecological design are grown organically by me, in collaboration with Nursery In Good Earth. This makes the chain extra short, all plastic pots are recycled and the quality of the plants is guaranteed.

In my designs, the stories of the clients are the starting point for the design. This makes each project unique. In addition, the planting is always the main ingredient of the design and determines the atmosphere of the garden.

I work in both the Netherlands and abroad on a small number of projects at the same time so that there is attention for the client.
